Dianna in the News
WAMEDA Members Shine at East Coast Belly Dance Classics!
The East Coast Belly Dance Classics were held at Virginia Beach 7, 8 August [2003]. Special Guest Nadirah, last year's grand champion, wowed all at the gala show with her trademark charismatic performance characterized by playful interaction with the audience. Selected to serve as a judge at this event, her seasoned years of experience make her a top teacher choice for students from beginner through the professional level.
Dianna Dwyer won the category for 2 years and under professional dancer (Duchess of Dance). Arabic Pop seems to be the "flavor of the month" these days in popularity. This style was featured almost exclusively at the recent seminars across the country. Pop has a place in energizing amateur and professional shows. But Dianna's classical, elegant Egyptian presentation is refreshing and a reassurance that audience appreciation for this ethereal, subtle yet delightfully flirtatious style will remain constant and eternal. Dianna has worked diligently and studied with two outstanding Egyptian style dancers in our area - Faten Salama of Egypt and Yasmin of Bethesda, Maryland. Intensive training with Artemis has also been key in fine-tuning her professional dance skills. A total class act, she is a special favorite of local ethnic audiences and heavily booked for Persian and Arabic weddings. She currently performs at Casablanca restaurant.
Dianna is also a beacon of light with her cheery attitude and unconditional support for the sisterhood of dance in our community. Specially selected by Faten Salama to substitute teach in her absence, I hope that Dianna will one day soon bring this most welcome positive energy to students as a teacher.
